Cook Finishes 13th in Martinsville
Martinsville, Va. (March 31, 2008) - Terry Cook had an up and down day throughout Saturday’s Kroger 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway, finally crossing the finish line 13th in the No. 60 Wyler.com Toyota Tundra. Cook had climbed into the top ten in the middle stages of the race but a scrape with another competitor forced a caution-flag pit stop with 75 laps to go and dropped him back outside the top 20.
“We just had no grip at all,” Cook said. “It was sliding the front tires and the rear tires and at that point we were running 19th so we really didn’t have anything to lose. The guys never gave up. We knew some guys were going to run out of fuel in front of us and we knew some of them would take each other out being too aggressive. They kept the driver calm and we were able to recover and salvage a decent finish.”
Cook’s run back into the top fifteen was nearly derailed when Jack Sprague got loose off turn two and slid across the nose of the Wyler Racing truck late in the 250-lap event.
“Jack got pushed up out of the groove in turn one and it looked like he was just about out of control when I got there,” Cook said. “Our spotter said it almost looked like he was headed into the garage area. I bet he had some buildup on his tires after getting into the loose stuff and he was just fighting for control. But it was a close call for us too.”
With the 13th place finish, Cook now sits tenth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings with 499 points only 40 points out of the sixth position. Kyle Busch is the current series championship leader with 645.
Next up for Cook and the No. 60 Wyler.com Toyota is the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway. Practice is slated for Friday April 25, 2008 with qualifying and the 167-lap race set for Saturday April 26, 2008. SPEED will broadcast the race live starting at 3:00 P.M. Eastern. MRN Radio will have the radio broadcast on select affiliates nationwide as well as on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128.
