Cook Scores Career-Best Finish at Fontana

Fontana, Calif. (February 25, 2008) – It only took two races for Terry Cook and the Wyler Racing team to score their first top-five of the season, taking fourth in Saturday’s San Bernardino County 200 at California Speedway. The finish was a career-best for Cook at the track as well as a season-best for Wyler Racing.

Cook, a veteran driver from Sylvania , Ohio , was strong during Thursday’s practice sessions and looked to have another shot at the pole on Friday after starting second in the Daytona season opener, until rain rolled in to southern California , canceling all on-track activities. The field was then set based on 2007 owner points which gave Cook the tenth starting position. As soon as the green flag waved, Cook began making his way to the front. When the first caution came out on lap four, Cook and the Wyler Racing crew opted to stay out, happy with the performance of their Toyota Tundra, picking up one position to eighth.

Caution would wave for the second time on lap 14, giving the Wyler Racing over-the-wall crew a chance to refuel, add fresh right-side tires and make a slight trackbar adjustment to help with handling. Cook gained three positions on the stop to restart lap 17 in the fourth position.

Quiet over the radio, Cook had no complaints about his No. 60 Toyota Tundra, holding his position in the top-five and running a strong third when caution came out once again on lap 44 for debris. This time the Wyler Racing crew performed their second pit stop, making trackbar and air pressure adjustments while topping off fuel and adding four fresh tires, sending Cook out to restart sixth on lap 48.

Trying to reel in the field over the final 100-miles, Cook, running fifth, reported that the truck was “worse in the back than it’s been all day”. On lap 82, crew chief George Church brought the No. 60 Wyler Racing Toyota Tundra down pit road under green flag conditions for right side tires, fuel and final air pressure and trackbar adjustments. Cook picked up one position on the stop to move into fourth. Cook held his position through the final eight laps, taking the checked flag for a fourth place finish at the two-mile track.

“We knew we were pretty good since we unloaded,” Cook said. “We were just a little bit off in the short run when the field got away from us and it was hard to pass. Once the field got spread out again, I could pick and choose and work the outside line like I needed to. Then, we could march our way back through the field and we were turning some of the fastest lap times of the race. I’m proud of our guys – great pit stops and a well prepared truck.”

After the strong fourth place run, Cook holds down the 12th spot in the overall drivers standings – a mere 17 points outside the top-10.

After a week off, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will resume racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 7th for the American Commercial Lines 200.
