Cook Looking To Improve Numerology In
Nashville NASCAR Truck Series Event
When it comes to numbers, the only one Terry Cook is interested in is the number 1 - as in winning.
Winning would be big step forward, it would be huge for our team, said Cook, who will pilot the No. 59 HT Motorsports Toyota in this weekends Toyota Tundra 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway. Weve been struggling the last couple of races and it would be a big confidence builder for everyone in our program. Im confident we can win races, we just havent done it yet. When you win, you have that confidence that you can run well every week and have a chance to win every week. You get on a roll and that confidence can fuel your team for weeks to come, right through the rest of the season.
While a first-place run is at the forefront of Cooks ambitions, its the number 6 that has popped up regularly throughout the Sylvania, OH drivers Truck Series career.
Cook has made six NCTS starts at Nashville Superspeedway posting a sixth-place finish in the inaugural 2001 event as his best effort to date. Additionally, Cooks career Truck Series win total is six all statistics the veteran driver would like to improve on at Nashville when the Toyota Tundra 200 takes the green flag Saturday.
In the past, I have run well there only to get foiled somehow and come up short of the win, said Cook, who started 19th and finished 10th in last years Truck Series classic at Nashville. My crew chief, Danny Rollins, is from the Nashville area, so is our team engineer Ken Woodard and shock specialist/jackman Chris Atwood. All of them have done well there in the past, so hopefully that will give us the edge we need to a great finish and maybe win there this time around.
A Nashville win would also add to some impressive career numbers that Cook has piled up since making his Truck Series debut at Milwaukee in 1996. Those stats include 254 career starts (third all-time) and 236 consecutive starts, the longest streak in the history of the Truck Series.
Despite all the numerology, theres still plenty of goals to achieve and records to set for the HT Motorsports driver. Included in that group is a win at Nashville this weekend.
Nashville is known as Music City USA and they give away one of the coolest trophies in all of sport that custom Gibson guitar, said Cook. Every year, they hold it up in the drivers meeting and everybody gets wide-eyed looking at it. Its all painted up to honor the race and every driver would love to have that thing. Everyone talks about winning the guitar at Nashville. Its been a tradition in racing at Nashville forever. Its one of the coolest things any driver could ever add to their collection. Knowing that you have a one in 36 shot in winning that trophy is pretty exciting. Hopefully, we can bring that guitar home this year and put it on our mantle.
Saturdays Toyota Tundra 200 will take the green flag at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The 150-lap event on the 1.333-mile Nashville concrete oval will be telecast live on The SPEED Channel and broadcast worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio.
