2004 Race Summary . . .
The Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International race team’s string of top-10 starts and finishes at Memphis Motorsports Park was snapped after a dismal weekend last year.  With a fairly new driver-crew chief combination entering the race, the team searched for fast laps but struggled on the .75-mile speedway.  In the race, a green-flag pit stop and a caution flag immediately thereafter left the team three laps down to the leaders and ultimately finishing outside the top 25.

Sponsor Change . . .
Through its motorsports marketing program in the NCTS, International Truck and Engine Corporation wants to identify its Power Stroke® diesel engine as the leading diesel supplier to Ford Motor Company’s truck, SUV and van production lines.  Beginning with this weekend’s race at MMP, the correct sponsor name on the No. 10 Ford is Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International.  Since 1994, more than two and a half million Ford vehicles are powered by a Power Stroke diesel engine and continue to be the most sought-after engine in its class based on its proven reliability, performance and superior fuel economy.  For more information, please visit www.powerstrokediesel.com.

Cook on competing at MMP . . .
“Memphis Motorsports Park is a difficult track to get around.  From an aerial view, it looks similar to Richmond but it doesn’t drive anything like it.  You carry a lot more corner speed at Richmond than you do at Memphis.  You have to really slow the truck down in the corners and finesse your feet with the brakes.  The truck has to have good traction up off the corners too.”

Cook on his past performances at MMP . . .
“We were in contention the entire race in 2002.  I ran second to Travis Kvapil and passed Ted Musgrave with about 40 laps to go.  When I caught Kvapil, I dogged him the remaining laps.  I was on his bumper within inches every lap waiting for him to make a mistake and he never did; he went on to win the race.  I had a lot of opportunities to muscle Travis out of the way to go on and win the race but that’s not my style of racing.  It was a good day at Memphis and I went the following week to Milwaukee and won.”
