The race was the first NCTS night race and fourth consecutive top-10 finish at The Milwaukee Mile.
Crew Chief, Rick Gay on the teams test session last month . . .
The Milwaukee test was very informative for the Power Stroke Diesel by International race team. The test helped Terry and I become stronger as a team. It is always tough when you start from scratch with a new driver/crew chief combination but Im very satisfied with our recent gains in communication. Terry and I are both extremely determined individuals so in putting us together we should see more results like Charlotte and Dover.
Cook on his 2002 victory at The Milwaukee Mile . . .
From a drivers perspective, that was by far the biggest accomplishment I had had to date. We were fastest in practice, sat on the pole, dominated the entire race up until about 50 laps to go and had a caution. We went into the pits leading the race and came out fifth. I started crawling my way back to the front and got to second. I ran down the race leader with about ten laps to go and it looked like we were going to finish second. I just didnt have enough to overhaul the race leader. Fortunately for me the caution flag came out with about four laps to go. It took track officials long enough to clean up the mess that we had a green-white shootout and I was able to take the lead and power my way into victory. It was a special day.
Cook on the importance of qualifying at The Milwaukee Mile . . .
Milwaukee is a lot different than all the speedways that weve been at for qualifying; you need to be good for qualifying. Track position is very big at these flat tracks and its harder to pass than say at Texas, Michigan, Charlotte and others so well need to qualify well. Going back to Milwaukee is truly exciting because not only have I won both races and poles there but the Power Stroke Diesel by International race team tested at Milwaukee about a month ago and we learned a lot that will help us with our speed.
