Terry Cook To Have Special Guest with the International Truck and Engines Ford Team at Nashville
(LEBANON, Tenn.) - Terry Cook and the International Truck and Engines Ford team will have a special guest as an honorary crew member at Nashville Superspeedway. His name is Kevin Roberts. No, he is not a famous rock star or model, rather, a race fan who donated $1,000 to Paws With A Cause last week at Indianapolis Raceway Park in conjunction with the Power Stroke Diesel 200. PAWS was chosen after International Truck and Engine Corp. staff found more than 75 percent of its Power Stroke Diesel owners were dog owners too. The tie was a seamless fit with PAWS having clients and representatives nationwide in nearly every race market.
Roberts, an Indianapolis firefighter, participated in the Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International auction before Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series event and walked away with a race fan's fantasy pack. Included was an honorary pit crew pass to this weekend's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Nashville Superspeedway. Nearly $2,200 was raised from the event to assist Paws With A Cause, a not-for-profit organization chosen by International Truck and Engine Corp. as its charitable organization through the "Racing for Independence" program. Roberts talked about his gracious donation:
"I was at the firehouse on Friday so I could only make the race on Saturday," said Kevin Roberts. "My friends and I were walking along the midway through all the trailers and happened to stumble along these guys on top of the Power Stroke Diesel trailer. They were auctioning Power Stroke Diesel merchandise and the next thing I know I got wrapped up in a bidding war and was the highest bidder. I got to meet Terry Cook and the ladies from Paws With A Cause that were at the simulator. It was a great evening for a worthy cause and I'm looking forward to experiencing all the events this weekend in Nashville."
Cook, a nine-year series veteran and former resident of Indianapolis, has started every truck event at Nashville Superspeedway, is pleased to see the success of the "Racing for Independence" program and is looking forward to getting back into the No. 10 International Truck and Engines Ford.
"We had a strong outing at Michigan with this brand new truck," said Cook, who finished seventh at Michigan International Speedway. "Anytime you take a truck that you've raced well with in the past, you're excited to get back with that particular race vehicle. The optimism is high heading to Nashville. Crew chief Jamie Jones and ppc Racing have had a lot of success on concrete tracks in the past so it gives me a lot of optimism going into this weekend's race at Nashville. I've qualified well there before but never really raced well. I had some decent finishes in the top 10 a couple of times but never really was competitive. I hope to turn that around this weekend."
Based in Mooresville, N.C., ppc Racing enters its first season of competition in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with driver Terry Cook and the No. 10 Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International race team. ppc Racing continues its competition in the NASCAR Busch Series, its fifth season, with driver Jason Keller in the No. 22 Miller High Life Ford Taurus. With co-owners Greg Pollex and Keith Barnwell, ppc Racing earned the 2000 NASCAR Busch Series championship and has scored 27 wins and more than 150 top-five finishes as it enters the 2004 season.
