Terry Cook on competing at Kansas Speedway . . .

“Kansas Speedway is a special place because it was the first time we flew the Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International colors.  Kansas is an ISC (International Speedway Corporation) track that is a new facility and one of the nicest (tracks) out there.  My understanding is the weather is going to be a bit better.  It won’t be quite as hot as it traditionally is on the July 4th weekend in Kansas.  We’ve got a new paint scheme on the Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International truck this weekend and being the third anniversary with them, I’m truly excited to go back to Kansas.”

Terry Cook on preparing for a traditionally hot and humid weekend . . .

“You stay up on your same workout routine that you follow all year long.  You start hydrating yourself the best that you can on Tuesday and Wednesday before the race weekend.  If you wait until Friday or Saturday to hydrate yourself then you’ve basically have started way too late.  Starting on Tuesday and Wednesday of the week, I traditionally drink water and Gatorade to keep my body flushed with fluids and not a lot of caffeine or sodas.  As far as the race vehicle is concerned, ppc Racing has started taking big steps with the Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International truck so that it runs cool and can run the entire distance up front all day long.  We’re painting the hood white and doing everything we can to keeping the under-the-hood temperatures down to a minimum because this again is a high-heat track and it is very easy to have a vapor-lock or fuel-related problems there.”

Terry Cook on starting the season at Milwaukee. . .

“It’s going to take good, solid finishes like we had at Milwaukee.  After all the problems early on in the season, we’ve made a pact that meant the season starts over here.  We felt like we’ve started to turn the corner and getting everything lined back up the way it belongs.  The Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International race team definitely did not perform up to standards the first quarter of the season.  It’s kind of a rollercoaster ride.  We’re trying to get that rollercoaster ride to even itself back out and start running in the top 10 every week.  When we do that we’ll start running in the top five.  The biggest thing to do to get back in the top 10 is to do just that and that’s to run in the top 10 every week.  You make your goals attainable.  Once you’ve attained those goals, you set another goal.  Right now our goal is to get back into the top 10 the next couple of weeks and when we do that then we will focus on getting back into the top five. We’ll see if we can get the next rung on the ladder hung there at Kansas.”
